Popular Questions

Protein is a macronutrient found in a number of common foods. Protein is harnessed by the body to promote muscle growth, aid recovery, and enable the body to perform consistently at the highest level.

An individual's main source of protein should come from whole foods such as meats, seafood, eggs, and beans. In addition to wholefoods, protein comes in the supplement form of whey protein powder. Whey Protein's high protein content means it's very calorie efficient, meaning it can assist in losing fat and gaining muscle simultaneously.

There are three main types of whey protein powder, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, and Whey Protein Hydrolysate (WPH). Each of these protein powders have unique attributes that may vary in importance depending on an individual's training regime and body type. For more information on protein and to learn more about the different types of protein powders, click here.

One of the most common questions asked is "how much protein do I need daily?" In short, there's no blanket answer as everyone's personal protein requirements vary depending on a number of factors such as height, weight, goals and training program. Nevertheless, there are some indicators that can act as a general guide. The world health organisation recommends approximately 0.66g of protein per 1kg of bodyweight. However, it is important to note that this recommendation is the suggested protein amount to sustain life, not for performance and does not take into account the effects of strength and cardiovascular training on the body.

The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) recommends between 1.5g to 2g per 1kg of bodyweight for individuals looking to gain lean muscle mass and regularly perform physically exerting exercise. This would only be advised if the individual does not have any renal (kidney issues) and no other reason not to increase their protein intake. To learn how to calculate your estimated protein requirements, read more here.

Put simply, the key difference between WPI90 and WPC80 is refinement. Both WPC80 and WPI90 begin in the same place, as whey liquid. The first refinement process makes the whey liquid into whey protein concentrate, which has around 80% protein content in natural form and includes some lactose.

To create whey protein isolate, the whey protein concentrate is further refined, stripping away lactose and any other elements of the concentrate to give a purer protein of around 90% protein content. Both variants will help support lean muscle growth or weight loss/toning, however the WPI90 is the best option for anyone who has adverse reactions to lactose. In short, New Zealand Grass-fed whey protein is the best form of protein powder. Grass-fed whey protein means that the cows haven't been subjected to large doses of antibiotics that would enable it to be fed grain or corn. Subsequently, the grass-fed whey is cleaner and free from all nasties associated with mass farming.

But why New Zealand grass-fed? New Zealand is the most advanced dairy producer in the world with strict guidelines on grass feeding and dairy farming. The NZ government mandates that all dairy products are to be free of chemical residue and antibiotics. Subsequently, there are regulated guarantees that New Zealand Grass Fed Whey protein will be free of all unwanted, unnatural extras. To learn more about NZ Grass-Fed Whey, click here.

It's the question vegans are sick of hearing; How do you get your protein? There are a number of high protein vegetable wholefoods such as Kale, Quinoa, Tofu, Lentils, Beans, and Tempeh. However, few of these protein sources are able to be conveniently consumed in the 15-30 minutes post workout when the body is craving protein the most. That's where vegan protein supplementation works best. There are a number of different vegan protein alternatives such as Rice Protein and Pea Protein. These options maintain similar protein content to Whey Protein Concentrate; however lack a similar amino acid profile.

For individuals using the protein for lean muscle mass, a blend of the two such as VEGAN85 is the best option. By combining both Rice and Pea Protein, VEGAN85 is able to replicate an amino acid profile similar to Whey Protein Isolate, making it the perfect vegan protein alternative. In short, there is no magic supplement for weight loss. The long-term answer to weight loss is a balanced diet coupled with an active lifestyle. Nevertheless, supplementation can be used to assist the weight loss journey. One of the best supplements for weight loss is Carnitine. Carnitine is a fat metaboliser known for transporting fat cells to produce energy, and subsequently providing energy and assisting in reducing body fat.

True ProDefine is the perfect post-workout weight loss supplement. The protein blend is specially blended to accelerate metabolism and burn fat. Best used as a post-workout weight-loss shake, True ProDefine includes fat burning ingredients such as Carnitine and Green Tea Extract. One of the most common questions associated with protein powder is when and how to use it. Protein shakes aren't the answer to filling your daily requirements, but they can be used to boost your intake throughout the day. Nevertheless, this isn't their most important function. In the 15-30 minutes post workout the body craves protein in order to kick-start the recovery process, failure to do so will impede both muscle gain and fat loss, this is where protein shakes come into play. Protein shakes provide a convenient protein source immediately post workout, and is why the majority of people drink them straight after training.
