Newer bikes are a lot closer, those YT commenters are just jealous. My buddies 2009 FZ1 with digital speedo reads within 1mph of his GPS, tested up to 168mph. I would assume the 2010 R1 would be within the same amount of error, so he was doing around 185 where they are limited at.

It was actually a friend of mine who was riding it. He was tucked in completely and said the bike felt very stable. I can't imagine what it's like to go that fast; I've never done it. :leaving

Wow the top speed for a 2009 FZ1 is 153 (I just [posted the stats in another thread...lol) which was reported using radar by Motorcycle Consumer News. In fact it was slightly slower then my 2001 FZ1 which was radared at 157mph by Motorcycle Consumer News when it came out.
So I would like to know how your buddy got a 2009 FZ1 up faster then the older generation one when it was well reported on and people at the time were a little upset that it was detuned...hell even less weight and it still only managed 153mph.
Oh and there is an error, your friend needs a new GPS. Speed @ 65mph indicated was actually 61.8

Interesting. He does have a pipe, aftermarket air filter, and Power Commander V. Less weight with more power than Gen 1, yet slower doesn't make any sense. I'm guessing Yamaha did some type of limiting to the ECU that the Power Commander is able to override.
Here is one doing 282km/h = 172mph, so it's obviously not gearing limited. Looks like he has similar mods, including the PC V. He does have a 16 tooth front which would explain how he got another 4 mph.

That was as fast as he could get it to go. The stretch is at least a good mile and a half.
If I am not mistaken, aren't all bikes nowadays electronically governed to 186mph?

waittttttt a minuteeeee....im just thinking now..if the bikes are limited to 186 on the speedometer that means REAL WORLD speed is somewhere in the 170's due to the percentage difference? Meaning 1k's dont ACTUALLY do 186? If that is the case then they really aren't that much "faster" on the top speed side of the spectrum, they just get there a helluva lot quicker.

Should get him to sign up for the TX Mile during the TX2K Supra meet.
It's where all the fast kids hang out.
But fawk, I'll never have the balls to go that quick on 2 wheels. Impressive just to have the courage to do that on a public road.

Ok had to register to tell you all that you are a bunch of dumbasses. 1) to the idiots using a gps to measure speed unless you got a mil spec PLGR or DAGR with the secret encryption your gps given the best condition works with +/- 10m or 100ft error only the secret gps sgnl goes to 1 meter error I ve seen them off by as much as 60 running on encrypted. 2) dee tee dee using radar gun are you a cop? Whens the last time you had it calibrated? Were you standing directly infront of the bike doing the run or off to the side remember geometry that whole triangle thing with one leg longer than the other? 3) why you posting pics for fz when the thread is about r1 4) finally took mine down 1/4 mile mechanical speed is most accurate
